STUFF
I recently had the opportunity to help my children close out their grandmother”s house. My ex mother in law lived a long and fruitful life, she is missed by all. But this is not the point of this blog… What I want to address at this time, is the amount of stuff accumulated in a life time…Things that we treasure are a separate issue of course, but the dust collectors, the old receipts, stuff we could not live without, now are left behind to be disposed of by the family.
This whole situation made me think of all the stuff I have accumulated, and I realized that I have too much of it. So, this year and my New Years resolution I decided to make order out of chaos.
I love “stuff”! I collect antiques, purses, vases and I went thru a phase when I collected tea pots. My kitchen is decorated in the 1920’s era , Hoosier cabinet and all.The rest of the house is a collection of new and old decor. It looks nice, but all those items need to be moved and dusted, there is really no reason to have 7 items on a small shelf, as 3 items is plenty and just as appealing..
So, as I approch this new year with this goal in mind I must remember that clutter, whether it be in my life or items in the home, are not as important as peace of mind. I must take charge of things and not let them take charge on me.
So, My word of choice for 2009 will be MINIMIZE..
